It's often said that American farmers feed the world. And it is true that American agricultural products are used and enjoyed around the world. But it's not just our food and fiber that make a difference - it's our knowledge. Scientific advances in agriculture have spared millions of people from starvation. And in Iowa's state capital of Des Moines, hundreds of people from around the globe gather to award people helping feed the world, and look for ways they can do the same. It's the World Food Prize.

Better methods of food storage and transportation have improved efforts to reduce hunger but malnutrition is still a major concern for most developing nations. The World Food Prize underwrites programs to improve the quality, quantity and availability of food worldwide. One such endeavor selects high school students to work with researchers in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
