Despite Delaware being a rather small state, its broiler business is anything but small. Delaware ranked 7th among the states in pounds of broilers, at one time the state produced 1,544,400,000 pounds. Sussex county produces more chickens than any other county in the United States. Located on the State’s seal are a sheaf of wheat, ear of corn, and the ox, all of which symbolize farming activities in Delaware. Soybeans are the number one crop and are grown on two-fifths of the cultivated land.
