Agriculture is one of Nevada’s most important industries, contributing significantly to the economies of rural communities and the state as a whole. Nevada has close to 2,500 farms, averaging 3,500 acres in size. Livestock ranches are found in every county, but cattle and sheep raising is especially important in the northeastern region of the state. The “silver state’s” poultry and dairy farms are mainly near Las Vegas and Reno. The leading products are hay and potatoes. Other major crops include wheat and barley. Alfalfa is leading cash crop for the state while range livestock is the state’s leading agricultural industry.
