The U.S. is the world’s leading beef producer and most of the beef produced stays in the country. The cattle industry is quite different from the dairy industry and is generally divided into two groups. cow-calf operations and cattle feeding. On cow-calf farms, cows are raised for the calves they will produce and once the calves are big enough, they are sent to cattle feedlots. Texas raises the highest number of cattle and it’s the state’s biggest commodity. When we think of beef we generally think hamburger, steak, or Sunday roast, but cattle by-products can be found in everyday items like soap, tires, ice-cream, and even chewing gum.
