The different micro-climates of Michigan are key to the Wolverine state’s ability to grow over 125 types of food and fiber products and agriculture represents $37 billion of its economy. The state is one of the top blueberry producers in the U.S. with over 18,000 acres dedicated to growing the fruit. Dairy, corn, and soybeans are also leading crops. The state tree is the white pine and Michigan is a big producer of Christmas trees with 8 different varieties grown on plantations. The Michigan state fair started in Detroit in 1849 and was the first successful state fair in the U.S.
