New Hampshire has a small agricultural region, made up of about 2,900 farms having an average size of 166 acres. Most farms are in the southern half of the state. The chief crops grown are greenhouse and nursery products. The leading farm commodities are dairy products, hay, chicken eggs, beef cattle, and apples. Dairy products account for nearly 1/3 of the states total farm income. It is in New Hampshire where the first potato was grown in the country; planted at Londonderry Common Field in 1719.
