North Carolina has a broad range of climate conditions due to its three distinct regions: the Appalachian Mountains, the Piedmont, and the Coastal plains. In fact, it is considered to have the largest climate variability of any state east of Mississippi. North Carolina typically leads the country in annual tobacco and sweet potato production. It’s also a leading producer off Christmas trees, cucumbers for pickles, and lima beans. When it comes to livestock, the state ranks second in the nation in production of hogs, trout and turkeys.
