Ohio

Ohio, commonly referred to as the “buckeye” state, received its nickname due to the many buckeye trees that once covered its hills and plains. The name itself is of a native origin; Indians thought the markings on the nut resembled that of the eye of a buck. Ohio is one of only four states in which over 50% of its land is classified as prime farmland. The state grows around 200 types of crops and leads the nation in production of corn and soybeans, and is number one in the country for Swiss cheese production. Ohio is second in the nation for production of eggs and produced the most pumpkins back in 2005.
